The Shift Engineer will be responsible for leading operations shift team to ensure safe and efficient plant operations. This will include responsibility for making accurate and timely decisions on matters affecting plant processes and performance and consulting with the Operations Manager when necessary. In addition to that, the role requires a detailed understanding and practical experience of technologies of operating modern process plants associated with power generation and the production of desalinated water.The position holder should have excellent communication, leadership skills, and the ability to work under their own initiative with a high level of drive, energy, and motivation.Functions/ Task:Safety, Quality & EnvironmentResponsible for the “Safety Management” and “Environment Management System” where applicable.IMS Compliance and Certification.Responsible for the implementation and adherence of all operations-related policies & procedures.Responsible to prepare the safety documents according to the JOMEL safety rules standard and should be conversant with the PTW system.To provide focused leadership to the shift team to achieve plant performance and ensure optimum level of power and water export as required by the off-taker.To provide coordination among the operations and maintenance teams.To ensure that operations shifts are well manned and required resources are available for the team to operate the Cogen plant safely, reliably, and efficiently.Coordination with operations and maintenance team regarding the routine, preventive, and predictive maintenance requirements.Monitor the quality and actions on defects and work orders.Continuous monitoring and analysis of equipment operating parameters for early prediction of equipment abnormal conditions and initiate appropriate action to prevent unscheduled unit or equipment outage.Oversees chemical processes, sampling, and water plant control for quality standards and environmental compliance and safety.People ManagementMaintain high standards of management, ethics, and leadership.Establish and facilitate training programs for individual development and operational competence.Takes a lead role in implementing performance management processes by setting objectives and targets for the individual and performing periodical reviews.Provides support to individuals in achieving the set targets whenever necessary.Implements lessons learned processes and other activities to achieve a learning organization culture.Ensure succession planning for key staff.Establish and implement vertical/horizontal communication within the shift team to ensure members are well informed and remain engaged with the business.Perform the role of subject matter expert in specialized areas of the plant and deliver training to staff when necessary.Ensure that all activities are being carried out according to the predefined SOP & instructions.In case of any revision or update in the SOP or Instructions, it’s the responsibility of S.E to ensure that the shift team is aware and trained accordingly.Raising Plants Defects and PlanningRaise work orders in the system to report plant defects and follow up on progress.Coordinate with the Senior Shift Engineer and maintenance team to schedule planned and unplanned maintenance activities.Prepare and issue safety documentation to ensure safe isolations from the system for the purpose of planned and unplanned maintenance activities.Coordination with Power, Gas, Sea Water & Water Control CentersCoordination and strong liaison with Power, Gas, Sea Water & Water Control Centers with regard to Availability Declarations & Requirements Planning.The job holder operates under the general guidance of the Sr. Shift Engineer.
